Still slowly working through my backlog of sessions from last Fall. We got a beautiful October day to photograph the “B” family. These beautiful twins have been in school with my oldest son since kindergarten. I can’t believe they are all half way through middle school now! It was a pleasure to photograph them. These were their favorite 13 portraits from the session, which we arranged into a beautiful wall grouping of wrapped canvas art pieces as a showcase for their family room.

We have a good family friend, Daryn, who is the Director of Events at Heritage Prairie Farm. He graciously organized it so that we could photograph the “P” family at the farm this last fall. It’s a beautiful farm and they sell organic produce and delicious pure honey. Apparently the honey that is sold in stores can be some ridiculously high percentage of corn syrup and still be called 100% honey. Daryn’s wife told me the percentage, but I forget, maybe one of them will comment on this post and give us the stat!

Anyway, we stayed away from the bee area of the farm and had fun getting some beautiful portraits of the “P” family.

I have tons of portraits waiting to be put up on the blog. I’ve neglected my poor blog for far too long. Here’s a session from very early in the fall. These kids were real troopers. We did this session in early September and the weather been comfortable. But on this particular day, we had a hot spell and temperatures climbed up to 90, so it was not the most comfortable evening to be dressed in jeans and asked to walk around to different areas of downtown Wheaton to take portraits. They both did great and were extremely cooperative and we got some stunning images of a couple of beautiful kids.

This was a multiple generation session, though this little 6 month old guy was so cute and photogenic I had a lot of fun photographing him all by himself. We set up a little “studio” nook at his grandparents’ house and let him express himself. After he got tired of being the star of the show, he had a little snack and then we did some portraits of him with his parents and grandparents.

My “baby” sister just had her first baby. I was fortunate enough to get to fly down to San Antonio where they live and spend 8 days snuggling my new nephew. He’s adorable and my sister and her husband are so thankful to have him and so sleep deprived at the same time! My baby is now 5 years old, so I was happy to spend lots of time holding him, so they could take naps. And I have to admit, it was lovely to spend a whole week in shorts and t-shirts, soaking up the sun and high 80s/low 90s. It was a shock to my system to head back to Wheaton where it’s been in the 40s in late April and we despair of spring ever arriving.

The McMakens are extremely talented musicians — they have graciously allowed me to feature their music on my website. Check out more of their music at www.themcmakens.com. They welcomed a new baby boy into their family last autumn. He joined a very energetic big sister and I’m sure between the two of them, they are going to provide much joy to their parents’ life & keep them very busy! I’ll bet they’ll even provide some more material for beautiful songs, once everyone gets a little more sleep.

My blog seems to be the thing that gets moved to the end of my “to do” list. I’ve actually had these images editted (and the prints delivered to the client) for at least 2 months, but haven’t taken the final step to get them up onto the blog. So here they are. This little cutey is all spunk and her mother wanted to make sure that we captured her unique and shining personality — tutus, boots & beads!! She was on the move the entire time I was photographing, which is also a big part of her personality. She was adorable and we had a great time. It was hard to narrow down the images!

Late Fall at Adams Park, Wheaton, IL

These portraits were taken in late October, about the time when I’m starting to think that we can’t possibly have any more really nice days left in the fall. We really lucked out on this afternoon with the weather. The temperatures were unseasonably warm and the light was beautiful in the late afternoon. We did run into some challenges though since it seemed like every highschool student in Wheaton (along with most of their extended families) was out at Adams Park dressed in formal wear, taking advantage of the beautiful weather to snap about a zillion photos.

So, even though you can’t tell from these portraits, it was a bit of a challenge to make sure there weren’t distracting people popping into the background.

We had some truly beautiful light this afternoon.

There was a lull in the crowds at the fountain, so we managed to snag some shots with the fountain in the background.

Karin teaches at one of the colleges in our area. She is getting her doctoral dissertation published into a book and needs a portrait to go on the book.

I think she looks scholarly, yet approachable, which is a pretty accurate description of Karin — intelligent and friendly.

She’s chosen this image to go on the dust jacket of the book, but I included a few more in the blog post because I liked them so much.

This next one is my personal favorite from the shoot, but we both decided it was a little more glamorous than scholarly. This was one of those shots where a slight gust of wind came through and as I snapped the image I just knew it was going to be a neat look. Doesn’t she look gorgeous?

I can’t wait to see the book and I’m sure Karin can’t wait either!
